Study Tips

Want to study but you're too lazy? I know I am! Want to study but don't know where to start? Here are some tips!
Disclaimer: this will not guarantee an A on your test, what WILL guarantee an A is your attitude :))
1. Eat Superfoods
Superfoods is a gimmicky word for foods that help you think. Some good foods to incorporate in to your diet are:
  • Almonds
  • Bananas (I know... EWWW)
  • Berries
  • Some Dark Chocolates
  • Chia Seeds
  • Spinach
Some of these foods may be disgusting but they're really good for you!
A decent list of superfoods is here.

2. Stay Focused

Block yourself from Social Media or you legit will get nothing done. Get an app to keep you off certain websites, like Stay Focused or Nanny. My ultimate favorite for Android is AppDetox, you give yourself limits (time, hours, etc.) and appdetox won't let you open up that app!

3. Use the Pomodoro Technique

Frequent breaks keep your mind active, use the pomodoro technique by working for 25 minutes and taking a 5 minute break. After four study sessions (pomodoros) - take a 15 - 20 minute break. There’s a really good article on the technique here. Plus I heard that you usually remember the stuff that you studied for the first 20 minutes, and the last 20 minutes.

4. Flashcards
Seriously, use flashcards. They’ve been proven to be one of the most effective tools for studying.

5. Quiz Yourself
The second best study technique is to make up a mock quiz. Use questions from the textbook - teachers like to reuse these with different scenarios in tests. Here’s a guide on quizzing yourself. Or sometimes what I do is give my mom my notes and ask her to ask me questions.

6.  Teach Others
'The best way to learn is to teach' - true though. If you teach others (or your stuffed animals, haha) you can find out exactly where you’re at, and explaining it aloud refreshes it in your head.

7. Background Noise!

Use Background Noise if that works for you. There’s a big master post on Tumblr here of background noises.

8. Space out your study
There’s super legitimate stuff behind spacing out study sessions, so if you can, do it. More on spacing study here.
